On Halloween night last year, Shadow Minister for Immigration, Damian Green delivered a well-attended and well-received speech at the University. Speaking in the Union Builiding on Queens’ Road, Green detailed the pitfalls of the current Labour regime and explained how a Tory government would be highly beneficial for the UK’s student population. Below are some pictures and extracts from the Epigram article written by Simon Iles (BUCA Publicity Officer 08/09) on the event.
The Shadow Minister for Immigration, Damian Green, visited the University on October 31.
Green, who has held various positions on the Tory frontbench, including roles in transport and education, claimed that the Labour regime has “over-promised and under-performed”, stating that the government’s “whole way of doing business does not work in the modern world.”
He added that he felt the Conservatives offer a “more modern, 21st century vision, encouraging individual power and individual responsibility”.
The MP also had a stark warning for students in particular. “If this [Labour government] continues, your generation will be taxed out of existence”, adding that “the generation who will benefit most from a Conservative government is today’s students.”
