The BUCA committee enjoyed a trip to Westminster last Wednesday to watch the trident debate and speak with a number of high profile Conservative MPs. The committee began the day being briefed about that day’s PMQs by Julie Kirkbride MP, former Shadow Culture, Media and Sport before watching the event in the House of Commons family room. The committee were then allowed into the chamber for the nuclear missile Trident debate.
Later that day they met with former Chancellor Kenneth Clarke MP who spoke about his support for Cameron and work chairing policy reviews. They then spoke with David Willetts MP, Shadow Education and Skills about the lack of funding in the university system before returning to the chamber for the end of the Trident debate and the final vote. Finally they were invited to a drinks reception with Liam Fox MP, Francis Maude MP and Iain Duncan Smith MP after the successful Trident vote.
